Andouille Pageant Offers New Incentive to Participate
ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – As festival season approaches, Directors of the St. John the Baptist Parish Andouille Pageant are aggressively seeking participants in the 2011 Andouille Queen Pageant. The pageant scheduled for October 1, 2011 will be held at the St. John Theatre. This year’s theme is “St. John Theatre through the Years”, commemorating the history of our local theatre with segments of its first showings and theatrical performances dating back to 1981.
The Andouille Pageant is recruiting girls for the Miss and Teen Divisions. Eligible contestants must be single, childless, a resident of St. John the Baptist Parish, and between the ages of 13-16 for the Teen Division and 17-23 for the Miss Division, on the date of the pageant. The competition for each division consists of an interview and on-stage walk.
New to this year’s royalty, The Mystic Krewe of Louisianians will include the St. John Andouille Festival Miss Queen in the rotation of Festival Queens, beginning with the 2012 Mardi Gras Ball. This includes traveling to Washington, D.C. in February and touring historical sites such as Arlington National Cemetery, the United States Capitol, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument. Queens will also visit with their U. S. Representatives and Senators, the Governor of Louisiana, and many elected officials and representatives of Louisiana. The Andouille Festival will be on a bi-annual rotation to attend the Washington Mardi Gras. In addition to attending The Mystic Krewe of Louisianians Mardi Gras Ball, the Miss Queen will compete in the Louisiana Queen of Queens Pageant held each year in January.
Throughout the year, Miss and Teen Andouille Queens travel to many fairs and festivals representing Louisiana’s rich culture and promoting the St. John Parish Andouille Festival. Both queens are invited to various Parish and community events as Ambassadors for St. John the Baptist Parish.
